Saakshi is a bioengineer with an MRes in Medical Device Design and Entrepreneurship from Imperial College London. She is driven by the belief that the best technology is built with empathy, designed around the people who need it most.
Stroke is one of the world's leading causes of death and disability. Clot-dissolving drugs work only within a narrow time window, and mechanical clot removal requires specialist surgical teams that most hospitals lack. The result is a stark gap between patients who arrive in time and those who receive effective treatment.
As a Blue Sky Fellow, hosted by Babraham Research Campus, Saakshi is developing a new approach to widen access to emergency stroke treatment. Her ambition is to ensure that reaching the hospital in time is no longer the limiting factor for a patient's chances of surviving and recovering from stroke.
